"60 MINUTES" TOASTS THE LATE BOB SIMON WITH HIS REPORT FROM THE SCOTTISH ISLAND OF ISLAY, WHERE SOME OF THE WORLD'S GREATEST WHISKY IS CRAFTED - SUNDAY ON CBS

Jim McEwan, Master Distiller at Bruichladdich Distillery, samples single malt whisky with Bob Simon.

In a Labor of Love, Colleagues Finish Simon's Last Unfinished Story

On Thursday in New York, hundreds of his friends and colleagues celebrated the life of Bob Simon at a memorial service. On Sunday on CBS, 60 MINUTES will toast its late correspondent with fine single malt whisky when it broadcasts his last unfinished story: a report from the Scottish island of Islay, home to some of the world's greatest whiskies. "Whisky Island" will be broadcast on 60 MINUTES Sunday, May 3 (7:00-8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

"Bob always had an appetite for a new adventure, and he loved whiskey - so it was a perfect mixture," said 60 MINUTES Executive Producer Jeff Fager. "It was a labor of love for us to put it together and broadcast it as a salute to our old pal Bob."

Harry Radliffe II, Simon's producer on many of his recent stories, worked with Steve Kroft to bring to life the story of Islay, where many believe spirits have been distilled since the 15th century.

But it almost didn't happen, as this 60MinutesOvertime.com segment reveals in interviews with Fager, Kroft and Radliffe.
