FORMER NFL PLAYER CONVICTED OF KILLING A CALIFORNIA MILLIONAIRE VOWS TO TELL CBS NEWS "48 HOURS MYSTERY" WHO REALLY DID IT, IN "MURDER IN THE O.C." - TUESDAY, MAY 29 (10:00 PM, ET/PT)

Nearly two decades after he was caught up in a love triangle that turned deadly, former New England Patriots player Eric Naposki reveals shocking new information to CBS News 48 HOURS MYSTERY in an updated edition to air Tuesday, May 29 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

"I might wear handcuffs and I might be locked up, but I'm no criminal," Naposki tells 48 HOURS MYSTERY correspondent Troy Roberts in a dramatic update to a story CBS News first brought TV viewers in October 2011. "There's a person out there who actually committed a crime and today I'm going to tell the world who really did it and I'm going to prove my innocence."

"Murder in the O.C" is one of several newly updated editions of 48 HOURS MYSTERY that will air Tuesday nights at 10:00 PM this summer in addition to the program's usual Saturday 10:00 PM telecasts.

Though not a household name, Naposki spent time delivering powerful blows to running backs as a linebacker for the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts, before being involved in a love triangle that got him featured on 48 HOURS MYSTERY.

The story starts nearly 20 years ago. Multimillionaire Bill McLaughlin was fresh from a 1990 divorce when he began dating - and eventually proposing to - the much-younger Nanette Johnston. They lived carefree in the upscale California town of Newport Beach until, one night in December 1994, when someone pumped several bullets into McLaughlin. His bullet-riddled body was found in the kitchen. Police questioned Johnston, but she had an alibi. That story only held until it was involved in a relationship with Naposki, who had his own plans to marry the beauty.

Initially, police lacked sufficient evidence to bring the case to justice. However, 15 years later prosecutors believed they had enough to make a case, and Naposki was arrested. Convicted of murder in July 2011, he maintains police got the wrong man.

Several weeks ago, Naposki summoned Roberts back to prison to tell more of his story, which is included in this update.

"I am exposing myself. I am exposing my family," Naposki tells 48 HOURS MYSTERY. "I'm exposing my children to harm. There's a murderer walking on the street."
