"THE SCIENCE OF SEDUCTION: WHY HIM? WHY HER?"

Martin Bashir Anchors a Special Edition of "20/20," Friday, Jan. 30 at 9:00 p.m., ET

What exactly is love and how do we find it? What makes us fall in love and why do we feel it for one person and not another? From possible scientific advances to inventive ways of finding a soul mate, Martin Bashir reports on what is one of the most complicated and mysterious processes in ones life love. "The Science of Seduction: Why him? Why her?" airs as a special edition of "20/20," FRIDAY, JANUARY 30 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Biological anthropologist Dr. Helen Fisher has spent 30 years putting couples under the microscope -- analyzing love and scrutinizing affection. She says science is now ready to crack the code of love. "I feel as if I've stumbled into Mother Nature's kitchen and discovered some of her secrets of why you fall in love with one person rather than another," Dr. Fisher tells Bashir. "20/20" examines her theories in a quest to answer the intriguing question: when people meet a potential partner, what turns the feelings on romantic love on or off -- and can you speed up the dating game by tapping into mother natures mating game? "20/20" follows several new couples on the rocky road to romance to see how Dr. Fishers theories hold up.

Bashir also looks at the extreme measures some people take in the search for love, including arranged marriages. Only 5 to 7% of arranged marriages end in divorce, compared to the near 50% divorce rate in the U.S. of marriages made for love. Bashir asks why? And when nature isnt taking its course and the search for love needs a romantic bailout, some people are turning to headhunter for the heart April Beyer. This Los Angeles matchmaker, who charges $30,000 a year for her services, believes that psychology not biology will lead to love.
