IT'S MORE THAN JUST SEX... THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN, ON ABC NEWS 20/20, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 29

The gender gap How different are female and male brains? 20/20 correspondents report on the female brain, the gender gap and the brainwork behind sex, as well as question some common myths between the sexes. The eye-opening reports air on 20/20, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Gender myths Men dont listen. Women cant read maps. Men snore more. Women are less likely to have affairs. Are we really different, or are those statements myths? John Stossel talks to doctors to find out.

The female brain As Elizabeth Vargas reports, at the beginning of life we may think that baby girls and boys are blank slates. But new science tells us their brain circuitry is different and that powerful hormones will dramatically shape their future thoughts, feelings and behavior. The day they're born, their circuitry is already pretty much wired they're either formed as a male brain or a female brain, says Dr. Louann Brizendine, a neuropsychiatrist and author of the new book, The Female Brain.

20/20 looks at many stages of life: To illustrate how a teens changing brain chemistry often molds their behavior, Dr. Brizendine invited 20/20 to listen in as she spoke to a group of high school students who were asked to come up with questions they always wanted to ask the opposite sex. Vargas also talks to Dr. Brizendine about the mommy brain and the powerful hormones that literally hijack a pregnant womans and then a mothers -- brain circuit.

Feeling the gender gap firsthand JuJu Chang reports on world-renowned neurobiologist Ben Barres, who has experienced the gender gap from both sides. Barres, now a man, spent the first 40 years of his life as a woman named Barbara.

The brainwork behind sex Lynn Sherr reports on the fundamental differences between women and men when it comes to sexual relationships, orgasms and just plain being in the mood. Sherr talks to sex therapist Dr. Laura Berman, who says there is a huge gender gap in the bedroom. Actress, former Playmate of the Year and best-selling author Jenny McCarthy agrees. In her new book she laments that our differences the ones that make sex so much fun can also get in the way. I think that most men, and I have to underline the word most, just dont get it, she says.

20/20 is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and John Stossel. David Sloan is executive producer.
