"DATELINE" TO AIR REPORT ON COUNTERFEIT PRESCRIPTION DRUGS - SUNDAY, JUNE 2

IN A "DATELINE" HIDDEN CAMERA INVESTIGATION, CHRIS HANSEN GOES UNDERCOVER IN CHINA TO REPORT ON THE INTERNATIONAL COUNTERFEIT PRESCRIPTION DRUG TRADE SUNDAY, JUNE 4 AT 7PM

(New York, N.Y.) June 2, 2006 America's drug supply is the safest in the world with millions of people buying life-saving medicines everyday. However, as more and more drugs are being sold on the Internet, a new problem has emerged: counterfeit medications. Now, those fake prescription drugs are popping up at drug stores, from popular prescriptions like Viagra, to life-saving drugs like Tamiflu. In an effort to find out about who is making the bogus medicines and learn how do they sneak them into the United States medical system, "Dateline" began a hidden camera investigation into the murky world of international counterfeiting over a year ago.

The hour-long report, airing on Sunday, June 4 (7:00 PM/ET), documents just how easy it is for counterfeit medicines to wind up at your local pharmacy. "Dateline's" Chris Hansen travels to China and goes undercover to report on the international counterfeit prescription drug trade. "Dateline's" cameras reveal the secrets of the counterfeit drug business and how they ship regularly to the United States. Included in the report are interviews with industry and government officials about the issue and Hansen talks with a family who unknowingly purchased counterfeit medications at their local drug store.

David Corvo is the executive producer of "Dateline NBC."
